Kampala High Court of Appeal today chaired the last hearing of an election fraud case, filed by lands minister, Hon. Judith Nabakooba (NRM) accusing NUP member Joyce Bagala Ntwtwa of illegally winning Mityana Woman MP election.
The case was presided over by Geofrey Kiryabwire, who nullified what had earlier been passed by Mubende court. The court in Mubende had nullified Bagala’s victory stating that the election was filled with violation.
While minister Nabakooba kept claiming the election had voters intimidation, could not provide substantial evidence to defend her case.
This prompted the High Court to dismiss the case, stating that this was not sufficient enough to affect the election results. The judge proceeded to announce Joyce Bagala as the legally elected Woman MP of Mityana Municipality.
The announcement sent cold shocks among the yellow team (NRM) while it caused utmost excitement in the red team (NUP). NUP memebrs were spotted celebrating the victory of what seemed to be a hard fight.
Speaking to the media after the court, Bagala’s lawyers led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago expressed their dissatisfaction towards NRM.
Lukwago said NRM invests chunks of money into bribing voters and when loses, they start crying foul.
The magistrate dismissed the two parties and ordered them to each bare the costs of the suit.
