The Ugandan music industry was rocked by a shocking incident on Monday morning as popular singer Derrick Ddungu, professionally known as Rickman Manrick, found himself hospitalized following a brawl with fellow musician Deus Nduggwa, famously known as Grenade Official. The incident unfolded at Skyz Hotel Naguru after a brunch party hosted at La Terezza in Kampala.
According to Sheilah Gashumba, a prominent media personality and Rickman’s girlfriend, the altercation escalated when Grenade Official hurled a glass of wine at Rickman’s face, causing him to sustain profuse bleeding. Sheilah Gashumba also shared a video of Rickman undergoing treatment on a hospital bed at Nakasero Hospital, where medical professionals were attending to his injuries.
It was reported that Grenade had attempted to join their table during the party, but his presence was met with rejection, leading to a heated confrontation.
Expressing her dismay and sadness over the incident, Sheilah Gashumba criticized Grenade’s behaviour, labelling him as undisciplined and disruptive. She emphasized that Rickman was known for his calm and respectful demeanour, seldom engaging in party-related drama. She pledged to pursue legal action against Grenade and report the matter to the police.
In response, Grenade Official, whose current whereabouts are unknown, released an audio recording alleging that Rickman and Sheilah Gashumba had physically assaulted him, resulting in injuries to his hands and legs. Grenade also raised questions about Rickman’s motivations, recalling a prior romantic involvement with Sheilah Gashumba.
