Police in Kikuube are holding a Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF soldier for shooting a civilian to death.

The arrested soldier has been identified as Private Fahad Seguya from the 13th Battalion in Kikuube district, while the deceased has been identified as Augustine Akugizibwe, a resident of Kibararu village in Bugambe sub-county.

It is alleged that Seguya had been hired to provide security services during an introduction ceremony in Mairirwe village Bugambe sub-county on Saturday. However, the party was raided by rowdy youths at around 11 p.m., starting an altercation in which Akugizibwe lost his life.

Eye Witnesses say that Seguya fired bullets to disperse the youths who were pelting stones at him but one of the stray bullets landed on Akugizibwe who was pronounced dead on arrival at Kikuube Health Centre IV.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson says that the soldier is currently detained at Kikuube Central Police Station pending prosecution on charges of murder.

A similar incident was recorded in July when a group of individuals armed with sticks, stones, and machetes stormed an introduction ceremony at the home of the late Timothy Tibajagirwa in Kikuube District threatening to attack the police officers who had been deployed to provide security.

The situation escalated when the unruly group started pelting stones at the Police officers, causing a commotion at the party. Three people were shot and injured in the process.

Meanwhile, Police in Kikuube have also arrested a woman identified as Agness Musabe on allegations of strangling her husband to death following a domestic brawl. She later dumped his body in a dam.

The deceased was identified as Matyasi Bucyanayandi, a resident of Kihooko village, Ruhunga parish, Buhimba sub-county. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says the body was found with bruises on the neck, an indication that he was strangled.

Similarly, in Kibaale, the Police are holding January Mwesigye 45, for allegedly hacking his wife to death. The deceased has been identified as Janet Kanema, a resident of Muzizi B village in Kyakazaire sub-county.
