Earlier this morning, the police apprehended NUP president Bobi Wine immediately upon his arrival at Entebbe International Airport. He was subsequently transported to his residence in Magere under heavy security.
The confirmation of Bobi Wine’s safe return home came from his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, who shared the news on her social media page through a live broadcast.
Bobi Wine’s arrest occurred at 10 am, as he disembarked from his flight at Entebbe International Airport. Plain-clothed security operatives executed the arrest.
NUP’s inaugural Secretary General, David Lewis Rubongoya, disclosed that Bobi Wine had been swiftly taken to an undisclosed location.
It is worth noting that in 2021, Bobi Wine was previously placed in police custody, only to be returned safely to his home.
Before his return, Bobi Wine had called on thousands of his supporters to greet him at the airport upon his arrival from the diaspora, where he had been engaging with various Ugandan communities.
Uganda Police had issued a warning against any such procession, citing its unlawfulness and potential to disrupt national stability.
