The National Unity Platform (NUP) party announced that they had to delay the opening of their new office in Kawempe Division. This happened because the police and the army got involved. The ceremony was moved to Friday, November 3.
Robert Kyagulanyi, the party president, said that armed police and army officers stopped the ceremony. They said it was because President Museveni was also in Kawempe on the same day.
Kyagulanyi mentioned on his social media that it seemed the government had enough people to stop their office opening but not enough to secure the event, even though they didn’t ask for security.
He also added that they used President Museveni’s presence as an excuse. To make things more comfortable for their guests, they rescheduled the opening to the next day, hoping no more excuses would come up.
Two days ago, Yasin Ndidde, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner in Kawempe, warned the party leaders to suspend the event it on grounds that there will be ‘a lot of other VIP activities’ in the division.
