In a bid to promote environmental cleanliness and domestic tourism, Miss Tourism Uganda launched the “Let the Pearl Shine” campaign several years ago. This annual initiative focuses on cleaning various cities across the country and encourages Ugandans to refrain from littering.

The campaign, serving as a national sanitization drive, has expanded its scope this year to also advocate for domestic tourism. Ivan Lugya, the project coordinator for Miss Tourism, emphasized the importance of exploring Uganda’s tourism destinations. Alongside the cleaning activities in Kampala, Lugya highlighted attractions such as the Uganda Museum and Zoo, urging Ugandans to rediscover these treasures.

The Miss Tourism team kicked off the campaign from the Independence Monument in Kampala, traversing through densely populated areas including bus terminals and markets such as Owino, Kisseka, Kisenyi, and various taxi parks.

Since its inception, the campaign has reached different regions including Buganda, Tooro, Kigezi, Bunyoro, Teso, Rwenzori, Northern Uganda, and Ankole, fostering a culture of cleanliness and promoting local tourism nationwide.
