Last Friday evening was proof that class is permanent as veteran Kadongokamu artist Lord Fred Sebatta celebrated 42 years of doing music with a concert at Victoria hall Kampala Serena Hotel.
Sebatta, together with his Matendo guitar singers alongside other supporting artists entertained fans to a thrilling performance that left many yearning for more.
Their performance was both music and drama, something that many were seeing for the first time.
It was a historical show that had every reveler singing along to Sebatta’s classical songs including Nsasila Abawasa, Jangu, Sam Wange Aba Africa, Okufumbiza Omwana, Bamulya Asooka, Ogwembuga, Obugenyi, and Ndi Mwenyinyaze among others. Those who could not sing along were seen dancing and reminiscing the old days when radio was the only source of music.
Sebatta’s catalog is big and according to some sources, the singer has about 120 songs. He did not sing all of them but managed to sing those that people relate to.
When he performed Doole Y’omwana and Nabawanuka, the crowd went crazy. This was an indication that both songs are his biggest and they were all produced by Steve Jean at Fenon records.
Steve Jean had stepped out of his comfort zone when producing these songs back in the day. Being known as an RnB and Hip Hop producer, he got out of his comfort zone, something that many producers fear doing and tasted new waters. It was a first experience that later worked out as Sebatta shared in his press conference gearing towards the show.
“I would like to thank Steve Jean. He loved Kadongokamu and he suggested that we change something in the beats and rhythm of the song. I argued about it but finally gave in and allowed him to do what he does best, and when Steve Jean presented the finished sample, the project was amazing. He worked on my timeless song ‘Nalwewuuba’ but you can see people dancing to it in clubs flowing smoothly without tampering with the beats,” Fred Sebatta said.
Sebatta further added that Steve Jean together with the late Kizito Timothy further worked on the famous ‘Doole Yo’mwana’ song as well.
It still Steve Jeans Fenon events that handled the entire production at Sebatta’s show last Friday. From the stage set up, the lights and the sound gave the audience and the artiste a good feel of the show.
