Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has hailed retired Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire for his instrumental role in championing the Elevate Her Uganda initiative, a grassroots program designed to empower women and alleviate poverty in communities.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative in Mitooma District, Tayebwa underlined the critical role of financial empowerment in transforming families and communities. “When women are financially empowered, the ripple effect boosts household incomes and strengthens local economies,” he said.
He further highlighted that Elevate Her Uganda is in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to eradicate poverty, particularly under the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) development agenda.
Tayebwa commended Otafiire not just as a government official, but as a leader who is taking personal responsibility in driving change. “Government intervention remains key, but personal leadership like what we’ve seen from Otafiire makes the real difference on the ground,” he noted.
The launch of the initiative was marked by a show of unity and commitment from national leaders, with Tayebwa reiterating his dedication to supporting programs that promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Known for his advocacy on issues of good governance and efficient service delivery, the Deputy Speaker’s participation underscored Parliament’s backing for community-based development models focused on empowering women.
