Ugandans who applied for voter registration but are missing from the National Voters Register have been given an opportunity to present their case for inclusion.
The Electoral Commission (EC) last month launched the display of the National Voters Register in preparation for the 2026 General Elections. The register is being displayed daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends, at all polling stations across the country.
Following this main display period, a supplementary list of individuals recommended for deletion from the register will be displayed between May 16 and May 26, 2025, at each Parish or Ward Headquarters.
This supplementary display gives those wrongly recommended for deletion the chance to raise objections before the Parish/Ward Tribunal.
“The Parish/Ward Tribunal shall consider and make final decisions on recommendations for inclusion, deletion, or correction made by the public,” said Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
The EC has emphasized that this exercise is crucial, as it determines who will be eligible to vote on polling day. No new applications for registration or transfer of polling stations will be accepted during this period.
“Display officers will be physically stationed at each polling station throughout the entire display period to assist voters, especially those affected by the re-organisation of polling stations,” the Commission noted.
The process is being conducted with strict impartiality, and all interested members of the public—including political party agents—are permitted to observe.
The Parish/Ward Tribunal is appointed by the area Magistrate and comprises five members: two elders (one male and one female aged 60 or above) and three others appointed in consultation with political parties and organisations participating in the elections.
The Commission further stated that all complaints arising from the Display Exercise should be submitted to the Returning Officers of the respective Electoral Districts and will be addressed in line with the Constitution of Uganda.
