Biography:
Winnie Nwagi , born Winnie Nakanwagi is a Ugandan musician. She was born on July 20, 1989. Nwagi was born to Mr Henry Kabiito and Mrs. Sarah Namuddu. She grew up in Namasuba. Throughout her childhood, she longed to be a TV news anchor.
She attended St. Agnes Nagglama Primary School for elementary school and East High School and Migaddee College for secondary school as well as Namagabi ss in Kayunga for her A- level.
Nwagi’s dreams of enrolling into the university were cut short after she became pregnant during her senior six vacation. Winnie tried to apply to various universities but her father refused to pay tuition.
Nwagi was disappointed and her friends and the man responsible for the pregnancy advised her to abort but she was refused. Her brother Bob Lwalanda was very supportive and after the birth the man and came back telling her how he wants to stay with her but Winnie had already moved on.
Winnie began singing at school, where she studied music, dance, and drama. Winnie, who was raised by a single father, dropped out of school and was ejected from her father’s house when she was a teenager and has since hurried between recording studios pursuing her dream.
“Embela,” her debut song, was released in 2016. Winnie Nwagi had a significant breakthrough when she released “Musawo” a few months later. The track was a hit. Dan Ku Mapeesa, a well-known music producer, produced the tune.
The first person who took her to the studio was the late manager of young mule and she recorded and wrote songs although she didn’t push them. She later found an opportunity at monster studios where she backed artists like Evelyn Lago, Titie Tabel and Haruna Mubiru. Before she knew it coca-cola rated next had knocked and she registered.
Although she didn’t win the competition she caught Benon Mugumbya‘s eye who was among the judges and after the competition he signed her under Swangz avenue.
After her breakthrough hit, she has never turned back and she has gone ahead to release more successful songs such as Jangu, magic and many more.
In just one year since her coming to fame,
Winnie has received multiple honors, including Song of the Year and Breakthrough Artist. She is one of the most popular musicians on social media and a sought-after performer in the Country and in the Diaspora.
She has various ambassadorial arrangements as one of Uganda’s greatest performers. Startimes, Sports Club Villa, Jogoo Limited, and Crown Beverage Limited are notable examples.
