DJ Slick Stuart and Roja

Biography:

The famous Slick Stuart Roja DJ duo is the best duo in deejaying history in Uganda. The duo consists of Slick Stuart and Roja. Slick Stuart is a DJ at NXT radio under Next Media Services where he DJs in an evening drive show called the Transit but before joining NXT radio he was at KFM together with his partner Roja in a show called superstar Friday.

Slick Stuart, born Stuart Kavuma was born on November 3, 1990, in Makindye Division to the family of the Late Mr. Kavuma and Mrs. Joyce Nalukenge Kavuma .

Kavuma went to Vincent primary school, Shimon Demonstration School. After his primary, he joined East high school, Kawanda SS for his O-level and Kabojja High school for his A-level. After his secondary education, Stuart joined Makerere University for a Bachelors Degree in Information Technology but dropped out in his second year.
Stuart says his education was a hustle and he was expelled from many schools over discipline issues but he managed to complete his secondary education.

DJ Slick Stuart made a name in 2012 after coming up with extended versions of songs in videos and audios that were appreciated by fellow DJs as well as musicians. He was later signed by silk events and he became one of the official DJs of the company where he featured on most of the international shows that where organized by silk.

Slick Stuart comes from a background of deejaying with his late father having owned a discotheque known as Soul Disco that was popular in the 90s and had Mcs like Rasta Rob, Mosh and many more DJs at the time. This inspired Stuart to learn deejaying since he was exposed to the machines whenever he wanted to practice and he recalls one of his father’s workers could connecting for him because his father did not want anybody to on his machines.

In 2009 Kavuma joined the DJ business and he started by making extended versions of songs and also making extended music videos for music genres such as Hip hop, Rnb, pop and EDM albums for various artists.

In 2012 Stuart joined a company called Extended videos where they used to edit videos to match the audios to play without stopping. After sometime club DJs like Selector Jay started contacting him to order the edited versions of the videos and that’s how he slowly started getting into the industry.

During this time Stuart was contacted by Silk events to do video mixing at their events and according to Stuart, his breakthrough came in 2012 when he played at the street jam still at silk events. This was one of the biggest events in town and every DJ would wish to play on such an event.

DJ Roja, born Rogers Kitaka Nsubuga was born on 29th September 1989 in Kampala and he comes from the family of Hajji. Roja was born to father Ganga Nsubuga and Mother Agnes Nankabirwa. Roja is also a DJ on NBS TV at a show called NBS After 5 where he DJs with DVJ Mercy pro and the show is hosted by Douglas Lwanga and Mc Kats.

Roja is also a presenter at NXT radio still under Next media services and he features Qitui on the show.
Roger attended various schools which include the city high school, Kanjuki SS and after his high school Roja joined the Kyambogo university Mbale branch where he graduated with a diploma in Mechanical Engineering specializing in refrigeration and air conditioning.

In 2014 Slick teamed up with his fellow DJ called Roja and they formed the famous Slick Stuart Roja brand which is the most common and known DJ duo in the country. They are also known for their annual mixtape parties where they launch they’re newly recorded and released songs with Ugandan artists.

When Slick had just started his career he used to do a lot of high school events and he would always see Roja at the same events. So this was intriguing to him and he decided to ask and know who his competitor was and they ended up becoming friends since they had appreciated each other’s music

After two years as friends, the two decided to organize an event for their friends and this was their first mixtape party at club venom. It was a sold-out event although it was by invitation after the event they were both convinced that they can pull it off if they had come together.

The mixtape party became their trademark and two years down the road they were signed under KFM and they became the official DJs of the superstar Friday.
According to the pair, they encounter differences as partners but what keeps them going is the background and where they wish to be in the future.

After some time the duo decided to come up with an idea of collaborating with musicians. Slick says DJ Khaled and Shiru inspired them a lot to start collaborating with artists. The first song to be released by the duo was walk to work were they featured Nutty Neithan.

In 2018 this DJ duo quit KFM and joined NXT radio under NXT media services where they co-host shows.
